Outpatient

Ambulance Services

The Hospital operates a total of four ambulances operating from stations out of the Cayman Islands Hospital, West Bay Health Center and the North Side Health Center.

A team of Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics provide high-quality pre-hospital care for the island.

Accident & Emergency

The Accident and Emergency Unit provides 24-hour coverage for persons who need urgent medical care. It is staffed with specially trained Physicians and Registered Nurses at all times. Other Specialists such as Surgeons, Gynaecologist, Paediatricians and Radiologists are available “on call” after normal working hours if needed.

The unit has nine beds for observations, a room for paediatric patients and a room for infectious cases. It also encompasses a trauma room, which is directly accessible from the outside by ambulance crews, and can accommodate multiple patients, and also a room for carrying out minor procedures.

A three-bed, intensive cardiac care section allows for the provision of immediate attention to persons presenting with chest-pains. Each of these beds is equipped with specialised cardiac equipment and supplies.

A quiet room for persons suffering emotional/mental trauma is adjacent to the unit.

Community/Public Health Services

The Health Services Authority through an Agreement with the Ministry of Health is responsible for public health programmes under the Public Health Department. Public Health services include:

  • Health advice and vaccines for international travellers;
  • Health assessment, including vision and hearing tests for children;
  • Nutrition and dietary counselling;
  • Child growth and development monitoring;
  • Health Promotion;
  • Communicable disease screening; and
  • Disease prevention and control programmes, including immunization.

Dialysis Unit

People who have malfunctioning kidneys know that the service provided by the haemodialysis unit is crucial. This modern purpose built facility is fully equipped to meet the specific needs of hemodialysis patients. The unit has facilities to accommodate up to ten (10) dialysis patients at a time.

The Dialysis Unit serves local outpatients and inpatients, visitors and intransit cruise ship passengers. It is open on 6 days per week, Monday to Saturday. A dialysis nurse is on call for emergencies. To book vacation dialysis; please contact the dialysis unit at 345-244-2624/2769

Dental Services

Faith hospital has a dental clinic with two surgeries and there is a dental surgery on Little Cayman. A dentist resides on Cayman Brac and attends Little Cayman monthly. He works on Cayman Brac three days a week. There is a resident dental auxiliary who works primarily on the school children and a dental surgery assistant. The Faith Hospital Dental Clinic telephone number is 948-8618.

General dental care is provided at the main clinics on Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac. A large part of the service time is spent on dental emergency care and this service is provided weekdays and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. (8:00 a.m. on Saturdays) Emergency patients are treated on a first come first serve basis. Our dentists work the daily emergency sessions on a rotation basis. Routine appointments are booked on weekdays. There is a visiting Oral Surgeon and Periodontist and patients are referred to these specialists as required. The main clinic telephone number is 949-8602.

General Practice

Faith Hospital provides a range of general family health services and offers a variety of up-to-date diagnostic and treatment services in a modern and friendly environment. The Clinic is staffed with physicians who are trained to deal with emergency situations, as well as common colds. Appointments for routine care and follow-up visits can be pre-booked. Services provided: 1) Diagnosis, investigation and treatment of non life threatening illnesses. 2) Routine care of chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma and muscle and joint problems. 3) Routine check ups including medicals, PAP smears. 4) Diabetic Clinic 5) Dressing changes

Laboratory Services

The Pathology Laboratory of the Health Services Authority serves the majority of the population of the Cayman Islands. Specimens are received from Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman.

Requests are received for approximately 500,000 laboratory tests every year. The laboratory operates on a 24-hour service seven days a week. The associated Phlebotomy service operates Monday to Friday 7:30am to 6:30pm and on Saturday 8:00am to 1:00pm.

Forensic Science Laboratory

The Cayman Islands Forensic Science Laboratory, which is operated by the Health Services Authority, provides much needed local forensic testing services and assists in criminal and other legal investigations through the examination of physical and biological evidence. The service includes the analysis of drugs and alcohol in human body fluids such as urine or blood (forensic toxicology), examination of street drugs, assessment of evidence in relation to serious crimes such as sexual assaults and murders, crime scene investigation, and postmortem toxicology. The laboratory also offers its services to non-law enforcement agencies, for example with urine drug testing the laboratory offers random testing to clients from Drug Court and probation services and also to government agencies and private companies who wish to perform pre-employment or random drug screening on their employees. The laboratory offers an out of hours service 24 hours per day to its customers and clients. pager service.

Nutrition Services

Highly experienced and dedicated registered dietitians provide up to date evidence based dietary counseling and medical nutrition therapy. Nutrition services include individualized detailed assessments and diet plans which range from weight management for adults and children to health eating with diabetes, high cholesterol and much more. Several clinics are offered weekly. Direct referrals are accepted.

Nutrition clinics at the General Practice clinic are offered on a weekly/bi-weekly basis, as well as monthly/bi-monthly nutrition clinics. Home visits are also conducted for home-bound patients upon referral.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy Services at the HSA is housed within a spacious and modern facility. A complement of highly trained and dedicated staff provides individualized, detailed assessments and treatments in all areas of physiotherapy including Neuro, Orthopedic and Sports rehabilitation. On staff is a pediatric therapist  specializing in neuro-developmental delays and other problems in the pediatric population.

Other skilled interventions available include acupuncture, Cardiac Rehabilitation and a Back School. In addition, patients are able to obtain custom splinting for hand injuries, work site ergonomic evaluations and have access to regularly scheduled prosthetic and orthotic clinics.

The unit houses a 1000 sq foot gym, two whirlpools for burn and wound care and also a Hydrotrack unit (water-filled chamber) for aquatic therapy.  HSA offers a comprehensive rehab service in a caring, nurturing environment.

Pharmacy

The Cayman Islands Hospital has its own Pharmacy, which fills prescriptions written by hospital and private physicians. The normal waiting time for a prescription to be filled is approximately one-half hour, although during peak times of 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM it may take longer. To reduce the time spent waiting, please drop your prescription off and return to collect your medicine later. You may also order refills directly online here, call refills in ahead of time (at least 24-48 hrs) during weekdays between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Please be sure to give your name, the name of the medication, and the prescription number (the ten-digit number located in the lower right hand corner of the prescription label). When picking up your medication, please have your insurance card available.

Radiology

The Radiology department is a multifaceted and highly specialized digital department which strives to meet the needs of all patients and clinicians in diagnostic imaging. The department offers a wide range of services including General and specialized X-ray procedures, Ultrasounds, Computerized Tomography(CT), Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) and Mammography(including wire localization).

The department also provides special Ultrasound services such as Fine needle aspiration biopsies, Echocardiograms and Vascular studies. Our CT suite specializes in services including Vascular angiography, Colonography and Bone density studies.

The Health Services Authority provides a wide range of specialist outpatient consultation services in a modern and friendly environment with highly qualified Physicians who are ably supported by proficient and courteous nursing and reception staff. These clinics complement our excellent hospital service in the provision of a holistic approach to medical care rendered by our healthcare team.

Women’s Health

Our new and modern Women’s Health Centre is a dedicated multi-use building within the Cayman Islands Hospital complex devoted exclusively to serving the needs of female patients at all stages of life. The centre is staffed with a multidisciplinary team of health care professionals specializing in women’s health issues.

The centre currently offers gynaecology services, obstetric services, family planning and referrals.

Respiratory Therapy

Respiratory Therapy is provided in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.

The Respiratory Therapist is involved in the management of acute care patients who are admitted for a variety of respiratory conditions.  Therapy includes, but is not limited to, advanced airway care and mechanical invasive and non-invasive support using C-Pap and mechanical ventilators, optimizing pulmonary ventilation, administration of prescribed pharmaceutical substances/agents and patient and family teaching.

Treatment and support are also provided for persons with chronic conditions; such as performing sleep disorder studies, home oxygen and cpap therapy as well as pulmonary function tests.
