General Surgery

The General Surgery team strives to empower their patients with knowledge and understanding of their illnesses and treatment. The surgical department provides safe, dignified, high-quality care, guided by the best up-to-date practices.

Surgery

The General Surgery department has four (4) full-time Surgical Consultants with other attending specialist physicians. There is a dedicated surgical ward with 20 beds, and an Ambulatory unit for minor operation admissions and day cases.

The George Town Hospital has four surgical suites, three of which are used for major surgeries, while the fourth is available for all minor outpatient procedures.

The rooms are equipped with sterile preparation areas. The operating rooms are used by government surgeons as well as those in the private sector. There is a fully equipped 3-bed pre-operative area (holding) and a 4-bed post anaesthetic recovery room.

All staff are trained, peri-operative nurses.

The emergency care surgery team at HSA consists of trauma specialists, emergency general surgery and critical care surgeons providing comprehensive treatment for severely injured patients and those with surgical emergencies. These services extend outside of the operating theatre and start with a patient’s evaluation in the emergency department, continuing through the operative management of acute surgical issues until their subsequent supportive treatment in the intensive care unit.
