Emergency Medical Technician - Basic
The Emergency Medical Technical- Basic level will provide pre-hospital emergency care and transportation in accordance with the protocols, policies, and procedures of the Cayman Islands Emergency Medical Services. In addition, provide routine transport to and from the hospital facilities as and when required. Above all, the post-holder will act as role model for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) staff and ensure their daily activities reflect the mission, goals, and the objectives of the Emergency Medical Services.
Primary Responsibilities: The successful candidate will operate the Emergency vehicle to and from scenes safely, timely, and lawful while exercising due regards for others. Determine the needs of those involved in an incident and communicate all relevant information to 911, including requesting and coordinating with support agencies as needed. Manage communication via Radio with 911 Communications and varying other emergency and NGO agencies. Perform a thorough Patient assessment, recognize the nature and seriousness of the illness or injuries, and determine emergency medical care requirements. Establish communication with medical direction, including physician consultation when needed. To lift, position, move and handle patients in such a way as to minimize discomfort and further injury, including spinal immobilization, splinting, and proper lifting and handling techniques.
Qualifications and Experience: The successful candidate should possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent, and one (1) year working experience in the role of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Must have an EMT- B Licensure in one of the seven jurisdictions: USA, UK, South Africa, New Zealand, Jamaica, Canada, and the Cayman Islands. Current EMT-B registration or license eligibility with the Cayman Islands Health Practice Commission (CPAM). The successful candidate must be currently BLS certified. Must possess a clean driving record within the last two (2) years and a Cayman Islands Driver’s License Group 3 or Group 4 is required.
