Psychiatrist

Primary Responsibilities: The Psychiatrist will be required to provide psychiatric expertise and leadership to the Health Services Authority. The successful candidate provides high-quality assessments, diagnoses, treatment planning and review in the care of service users. The candidate will be required to provide regular clinical monitoring of psychiatric outpatients and inpatients, day hospital patients and to attend ward rounds. He/she is responsible for the voluntary and involuntary admissions of patients under the Mental Health Law. The candidate also provides reports to the court where applicable and facilitate psychiatric evaluations requested through the courts and provide psychiatric support to Caribbean Haven, a non-health service 14 bedded drug and alcohol dependency facility, with regard to medical detox. The successful candidate is required to run an out-patient clinic at Faith Hospital (on our sister island Cayman Brac) as needed. The candidate provides 24- hour on-call service as scheduled on the monthly roster.

Qualification & Experience: The successful candidate must have a primary medical qualification (ie; MBBS, MBChB) as well as a recognized 4-year postgraduate qualification training in Psychiatry. The candidate should also have a minimum of four (4) years’ post qualification experience. Must be eligible to obtain registration to practice in the Cayman Islands as required by the Medical and Dental Council (possess a valid license in one of the seven recognized jurisdictions: New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, USA, Canada, Jamaica or United Kingdom).
