Psychiatrist (Child and Adolescent)
The Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist will be required to provide psychiatric expertise and leadership to the Cayman Islands Government Health Service. The candidate will provide expert care to minors and adolescents in the neurodevelopmental window experiencing psychological or psychiatric symptoms. To provide high quality assessments, diagnoses, treatment planning and review in the care of service users.
Primary Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be required to operate and manage an out-patient schedule and review for children and adolescents. He/she will provide services at Alex Place to walk-in clients, provide regular clinical monitoring of psychiatric outpatients and inpatients, day hospital patients and to attend ward rounds. The candidate will be responsible for the voluntary and involuntary admissions of patients under the Mental Health Law. He/ she will also facilitate forensic evaluations and court reports for children and adolescents when applicable. Other general duties will also include providing psychiatric support to Caribbean Haven, a government owned 14 bedded substance use treatment facility. The candidate will be required to run an out-patient clinic at Faith Hospital (on our sister island Cayman Brac) twice per month. The candidate will be required to engage other multidisciplinary teams and other specialist in the Cayman Islands Hospital. The child and adolescent psychiatrist is expected to utilize evidence-based guidelines, follow care pathways relevant to the child and adolescent mental health service and to provide 24- hour on-call service as scheduled on the monthly roster.
Qualification & Experience: The successful candidate must have a primary medical qualification as well as a recognized postgraduate qualification with a minimum of four (4) years’ training in Psychiatry. Must have subspecialty training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Must be eligible to acquire registration to practice in the Cayman Islands. Must have current license in one of the seven recognized jurisdictions: New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, USA, Canada, Jamaica or United Kingdom.
