World Health Day will be observed as usual on April 7 th . In observation, as is customary, the Health Services Authority is offering free health screenings (blood sugar and blood pressure) at all the District Health Centres, George Town General Practice, Faith Hospital, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman during the period April 3-7 from 9am–1pm and on Saturday April 8 th from 10am – 2pm at various supermarkets in Grand Cayman. Cholesterol testing will also be offered.Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Samuel Williams Rodriguez says the free health screenings are a part of the continued initiatives of the Public Health Department to emphasise the benefits of healthy lifestyles and early detection issues such as Diabetes and Hypertension which will enable appropriate treatment in preventing complications and ensuring quality of life. He further notes that the usual screening exercise for World Health Day which carries the theme this year Depression: let’s talk is further strengthened by the fact Depression increases the risk of other non-communicable diseases such as Diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. In addition, diseases such as Diabetes and Cardiovascular diseases increases the risk of depression.No appointment is necessary during this week. Persons seeking testing need toindicate to the registration clerks that they would like to register for free blood pressure reading and blood sugar screening. The results are available right away and counselling and referral will be offered as deemed necessary.
