Under the theme, “Reaching Those Who Need It Most: Testing with and for Key Populations,” this year’s campaign highlights the importance of ensuring that HIV testing services are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of communities that may face increased vulnerability to HIV infection or barriers to healthcare access.
As part of the observance, HSA, Cayman AIDS Foundation and Cayman Islands Red Cross will collaborate on a coordinated programme of free and confidential HIV testing, community outreach and public education activities designed to increase awareness, reduce stigma and improve access to testing services across the Cayman Islands.
The initiative aims to increase awareness of the importance of knowing one’s HIV status, promote early diagnosis and treatment, reduce stigma associated with HIV testing, and encourage individuals to make HIV testing a routine part of their healthcare.
Throughout the week, trained healthcare professionals and community partners will work collaboratively to provide testing services, share educational resources, and encourage open conversations about HIV prevention, testing, and treatment.
Acting Director of Primary Health Care Services, Dr Eryka Simmons, emphasised the importance of testing and early diagnosis.
Knowing your HIV status is one of the most important steps an individual can take to protect their health and well-being. HIV testing is quick, confidential, and empowers people to make informed decisions about their care. Through this collaborative effort, we are working to ensure that testing services are accessible to all members of our community, particularly those who may face barriers to seeking healthcare. Advances in HIV treatment have transformed HIV into a manageable chronic condition when diagnosed early and linked to appropriate care.

HIV testing remains one of the most effective tools we have to reduce the impact of HIV in our communities. Many people living with HIV may not experience symptoms for years, which is why testing remains so important. Testing allows individuals to access treatment and support services early, improves health outcomes, and helps prevent further transmission. We encourage everyone to take advantage of the free testing opportunities being offered throughout the week and to make HIV testing a routine part of their healthcare.
The Cayman AIDS Foundation and the Cayman Islands Red Cross will support outreach and community engagement activities throughout the week, helping to increase awareness, reduce stigma, and connect individuals with testing services and educational resources.
HIV testing is free, confidential, and typically involves a simple finger-prick or blood test. Early diagnosis allows individuals to access treatment sooner, maintain their health, and significantly reduce the risk of transmitting HIV to others.
Members of the public are encouraged to participate in HIV Testing Week and to share information with family, friends, and colleagues to help normalise HIV testing as a routine part of healthcare.
