While celebrating the reopening of the Dialysis Unit at the George Town Hospital last month, staff were also delighted to be presented with a cheque from the Batabano committee to assist in the purchase of a further dialysis machine.Donna Myrie, Chair of the Batabano Committee, says the Batabano committee members were very happy to help out, despite tough economic times.Although fundraising for Batabano is getting harder than ever, we made a commitment to the Health Services Authority to raise funds for a new machine and I am delighted that today I am able to fulfil that commitment, she states.HSA Internist and Nephrologist, Dr Nelson Iheonunekwu confirms that the donation will make a huge difference to the Unit.The Batabano committee has generously given our Dialysis Unit a wonderful donation of $1,840 which we shall use towards the purchase of a new dialysis machine. This addition will strengthen our unit even further and help us to help even more patients in need of dialysis. The staff and patients at the Dialysis Unit are sincerely grateful to the Batabano committee for their kind support, he says.Health Minister Osbourne Bodden says the support from the Batabano committee has helped to elevate the Dialysis Unit to be able to offer an extremely high level of service to its patients.Our new facility is ranked among the best in the Caribbean region and we should be justifiably proud of the excellent service we can now offer Cayman residents in need of dialysis, he says. Donations such as the one given to the Dialysis Unit by the Batabano committee are crucially important because they help us reach our goal to create a healthcare service that leads the Caribbean. Our new and improved Dialysis Unit is a big step in the right direction.
