Earlier today (28 September), Public Health confirmed that a Year six student of the Prospect Primary School tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
The Ministry of Education has since implemented the following measures on the advice of Public Health officials to ensure the wellbeing of the entire school population:
- The child’s primary contacts at the school are being quarantined and Public Health will be on site at 3:30 PM to conduct testing.
- The primary contacts will include the child’s classmates and teachers who have had prolonged interaction with that class within the past seven days.
- The school’s leaders have also reached out to the parents/guardians of the child’s classmates for them to attend the school to consent for testing. Only one parent is required attend the school.
- The Prospect Primary School will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday 29 September 2021, to facilitate deep-cleaning activities. Department of Education Services (DES) will advise on reopening.
Public Health will contact other parents, as required, or indicated by findings of contact tracing activities.
Chief Officer in the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Ms. Nellie Pouchie stated, “The Ministry of Health is aware of this positive result today at the Prospect Primary school and will continue to support the Ministry of Education, our Public Health Officials and the Community at large in managing this latest positive case.
We encourage everyone to continue to stay tuned and to adhere to the guidance issued from the Ministry of Education and the Public Health Department accordingly.”
