Chemotherapy unit

by admin / Tuesday, 06 August 2013 / Published in News

On July 30th, 2013 Ms. Betty Ann Duty, Director of the Cayman Islands Cancer Society (CICS), and Mrs. Lizzette Yearwood, CEO of the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (HSA) along with other CICS and HSA representatives, signed a memorandum of understanding for the development of a new Chemotherapy Unit.

The CICS will be renovating a section of the building that formerly housed the Lighthouse School, which is located off Smith Road, to be the home of the new chemotherapy unit.  Once the renovations are complete the CICS will hand over the facilities which will be operated by the HSA, making the expanded unit available to all residents and visitors of the Cayman Islands.

“The Cancer Society and Health Services Authority have established a relationship that has proven beneficial to the community by working together to expand and improve the healthcare services for the people of the Cayman Islands.  Going forward, that partnership will continue to grow for the benefit of all residents” Ms. Duty stated.

Mrs. Yearwood was happy to include “Everyone at the Health Services Authority is delighted about this partnership with the Cancer Society and look forward to this next step in improving cancer treatment and healthcare provided in the Cayman Islands.”

“A new chemotherapy unit has been a vision of ours for many years and with this larger facility, we will be able to treat twice as many patients.  Our dedicated Nurses in the current chemotherapy unit are thrilled about the new facility, as it will allow patients to stay on island close to family during their treatments instead of having to travel off island”, states Mrs. Yearwood.
