Bodden Town Clinic closure

by admin / Monday, 01 October 2012 / Published in News

Bodden Town health clinic closes for six weeks

The Bodden Town Health Centre will close for six weeks for repairs, the Cayman Islands Ministry of Health announced last week.

The clinic will close from 1pm Friday, 2 November, until 8.30am Monday, 17 December.

While the clinic is closed, visitors to the clinic are advised to go to the East End Health Centre or the General Practice Clinic at Cayman Islands Hospital in George Town.

Health Minister Mark Scotland said the clinic, called the Jessie Ritch Clinic, is the oldest district health centre in Grand Cayman, having opened in 1995.

“It is badly in need of refurbishment – the roof covering was replaced earlier this year after the heavy rains, due to significant leaking. The repairs now will consist of replacing ceilings, AC system, electrical fixtures, some repairs to the floor, replacing windows, as well as repainting inside and outside,” Mr. Scotland said.

Parts of the ceiling collapsed as a result of heavy rains in April and May this year, bringing down lights within the clinic.

During the closure, there is no provision for transportation for patients to the other clinics, the minister said, adding that home visits would continue during the closure.

“We apologise for the inconvenience – and ask for the public to cooperate while the much needed refurbishment is carried out,” he said.
